Press announcement on the occassion of proposed amendments to the Proposal of the Criminal Procedure Law
26/06/2009On the Occasion of Frequented Violence and Threats of Violence
23/09/2009On the occassion of the latest attack on Slobodan Pejović
The Montenegrin police are responsible for protecting the life and property of Mr. Slobodan Pejovic, main witness in the war crime case against refugees 1992 and a man whose testimony about the crime saved the honor of the Montenegrin police, which we believe the future generations will be able to appreciate.Unexplored series of attacks on life and property of Mr. Slobodan Pejovic, which started from his refusal to participate in the arrests of refugees in 1992, and continued since his forced retirement from the police in 1994, show the failures of the police and assist unpunished criminals who continue to endanger Pejovic. In this way the state allows the communication of a message that all those who choose to testify about crimes and help implementation of any kind of justice will suffer grave consequences.
Human Rights Action calls upon the competent state bodies (Supreme State Prosecutor) to provide to Mr. Slobodan Pejovic, in agreement with him, measures from the Witness Protection Program, provided by the 2004 Law on Protection of Witnesses.
Today, we have again urged international organizations to influence state authorities of Montenegro to ensure serious investigation of previous attacks on Pejovic and protect him and his family.
