Attempted murder of journalist of daily Dan, Lidija Nikčević, is an attack on journalistic profession, freedom of speech and everyone who genuinely cares about human rights in Montenegro. We are happy that she survived, but every responsible person should be aware that the next victim may not be that lucky.

We expect the Parliament to urgently consider HRA’s proposal to introduce new criminal offenses and prescribe more strict punishment for attacks against journalists. Otherwise, not only attacks but also the practice of ordering attacks on journalists and other dissidents are encouraged, which is detrimental to the security and development of democracy in Montenegro.
