14/04/201414/04/2014 International Conference “Community-oriented prisons”
The two-day International Conference “Community-oriented prisons, organized by NGO Juventas and Human Rights Action begins on Tuesday, 15 April, at 10h in hotel Maestral in Pržno.
Preliminary results of the survey in which more than 50% of prisoners in Montenegro took part will be presented during the Conference. The prisoners responded to questions on the conditions in Montenegrin prisons, their treatment by prison officers, the possibilities of working in prisons, and plans after leaving prison.
More than fifty participants of the conference, representatives of state institutions and non-governmental organizations, and international experts will discuss the best models of work engagement for prisoners, their treatment, health care and education and the prevention of torture and other ill-treatment.
Participants from Serbia, Spain, Germany and other countries will give presentations on the organization of their local prisons, the jobs in which prisoners are engaged in, how the health care service is organized, what are the possibilities for prisoners upon release from prison and other issues of importance for the process of rehabilitation and social reintegration of prisoners.
At the opening of the Conference, speeches will be given by:

- Miljan Perović, Director of the Administration for Execution of Criminal Sanctions

- Danilo Ajković, Human Rights Action Project Coordinator
The “Community-Orientated Prisons” Conference is part of the project with the same name, which began in December 2013, whose aim is the prevention of ill-treatment in prisons and reform of the rehabilitation and re-socialization system, funded by the European Union.
