Human Rights Action (HRA) welcomes the decision of the President of the High Court in Podgorica to ensure that sessions of the Panel of Judges in the case of Pejanović are held tomorrow and to prevent that the prosecution of the accused police officers becomes time-barred by the end of October.
According to information released by the High Court in Podgorica, the President of the Court ordered to schedule sessions for tomorrow, 3 October, 2014.
HRA invited the President of the High Court in Podgorica on 30 September 2014 to ensure that the Panel of Judges decides before the end of October, and prevent that the prosecution of the accused police officers becomes time-barred and that they are freed of charges.
HRA recalls that the Basic Court in Podgorica in its third first-instance verdict from June 2014 for abuse of Pejanović imposed penalties to officers at legal minimum of three months of prison, although the prescribed sentence for abuse is up to three years of prison.
The High Court has quashed the judgment the Basic Court in Podgorica twice and now it has to render a final judgment.
