The Human Rights Action and Supreme State Prosecutor of Montenegro organized the Regional round table Suppression of impunity for war crimes on 25 and 26 March 2016 in Podgorica.
The event brought together around thirty participants representatives of state prosecution offices, the judiciary, lawyers and citizens’ associations that monitor war crimes trials in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
At the opening ceremony the speakers were H.E. Margaret Uyehara, Ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to Montenegro, Ivica Stankovic, Supreme State Prosecutor, Stanka Vucinic, Judge of the Supreme Court and the Deputy President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro and Tea Gorjanc-Prelevic, executive director of Human Rights Action.
The keynote speakers were Ms. Meddžida Kreso, President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Erik Larson, former International Prosecutor at the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Marin Mrčela, judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Siniša Važić, judge of the Appellate Court of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Jasmina Dolmagić, Deputy Chief State Prosecutor of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Gordana Tadic, Head of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Bruno Vekaric, Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Lidija Vukcevic from the Special state Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro.
The conference was held within the project “Suppression of impunity for war crimes and monitoring of the reparation process in Montenegro”, which Human Rights Action implements with the support of the US Embassy in Montenegro.
