The executive director of Human Rights Action (HRA), Tea Gorjanc Prelević, was the target of a coordinated and primitive smearing campaign by the tabloid Informer in Serbia and the accompanying Montenegrin portals IN4S, Press, Borba and Adria due to legal argumentation our organization sent to the Government of Montenegro in order to harmonize the agreement between Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) with the legal order of the state.
She, herself a Serbian national, had been labelled a hater of Serbia, Serbs and the Serbian Orthodox Church, “Milo’s expert” and a hypocrite. The bussiness affairs of her husband involving the SOC had been used against her.
On 4 August, Ms. Gorjanc-Prelevic filed a lawsuit against Informer, the first in a series of lawsuits in which she will defend the integrity of our organization and the right to freedom of expression for the purpose of the rule of law.
The business activities of her husband, who is one of eight co-owners of a building plot with the SOC in Belgrade, are legal and public, and had no influence on the actions of Ms. Gorjanc-Prelevic, which were and remain selfless and impartial.
The bitter impression nonetheless remains that the interests of the SOC are being defended by the echelon of quasi-media and journalists on special assignments, who tried to discredit the HRA and its director with lies and slander.
