6/4/2016 SPECIAL STATE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE IS CHECKING CLAIMS OF OBSTRUCTION OF THE INVESTIGATION OF ATTACK ON JOURNALIST TUFIK SOFTIĆ
State Prosecutor’s Office submitted the case files to the Special State Prosecutor’s Office to investigate whether the activities of public prosecutors and other officials who were responsible for investigating attacks on journalist Tufik Softić committed crimes within the jurisdiction of that Prosecutor’s Office, said in a letter of the State Prosecutor Petar Kapuci to HRA. Softić’s legal representative, Attorney at Law Dalibor Tomović, and HRA Executive Director, Tea Gorjanc Prelević sent a letter to the Supreme State Prosecutor, Ivica Stanković, in which they explain why they believe that the attack on Softić from 2007 was ineffectively investigated. They requested from the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office to provide for determination of responsibility of state officers in charge of the investigation. Previously, the chairperson of the working group of the Commission for monitoring the investigation of attacks on journalists Mila Radulović also wrote to the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office on the same ground.
Softić’s lawyer Dalibor Tomović filed a constitutional appeal due to ineffective investigation, and will soon also submit a civil action against the State for damages. Legal protection of journalist Tufik Softić has been supported by the Media Legal Defense Initiative from London, which received the Columbia University freedom of expression award in 2015.
