On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the attacks on Dubrovnik, Centre for Civic Education, Podgorica, Human Rights Action, Podgorica and Documenta – Centre for Dealing with the Past, Zagreb, will organize a conference entitled “War for Peace” – 20 years later on 2 December 2011 in Podgorica, Hotel Podgorica.
During the conference organized with the support of Friedrich Ebert Foundation, participants in the discussion from Croatia and Montenegro will speak about social and political aspects of war, post-war reconstruction and confidence building, needs and fate of the victims and prosecution of war crimes in the context of attacks on Dubrovnik through the following topics: The prosecution of war crimes – challenges and achievements, Dubrovnik and Morinj in the 90’s – different perspectives, Look into the future – education, media and civil society.
The conference will include an exhibition of 12 last photographs “Stone dust over the City” of a photographer and defender of Dubrovnik Pavo Urban, who was killed on 6 December 1991 trying to capture on his camera numerous grenades falling over the Stradun.
Along with the representatives of the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro, Supreme Court of Montenegro, State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Croatia and the lawyers representing the inmates of the Morinj camp, the conference will be attended by Metodije Prkačin, Morinj camp inmate, Luko Brailo, journalist of Novi List, Šerbo Rastoder, Faculty of Philosophy Podgorica, Zoran Pusić, Civic Committee for Human Rights Zagreb, Vladimir Pavićević, Faculty of Political Sciences Belgrade and Veseljko Koprivica, journalist of weekly Monitor.
On behalf of the organizers, speeches will be delivered by Daliborka Uljarević, executive director of Centre for Civic Education, Tea Gorjanc Prelević, executive director of Human Rights Action, Vesna Teršelič, head of Documenta and Michael Ehrke, director of the regional Office of Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
