INVITATION TO STUDENTS FOR A TWO-DAY SEMINAR: KNOWLEDGE FOR FACING THE PAST

The NGO Human Rights Action (HRA) is organizing a two-day seminar for students of the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Political Science, and Faculty of Philosophy on the topic “Knowledge for Facing the Past” in accordance with the agenda available here.

The seminar will be held at the “Villa Olive” hotel in Petrovac, from May 27-29. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by HRA.

Participants will be introduced to the foundations and pillars of transitional justice for the realization of victims’ rights of war crimes, which, in addition to criminal justice, include compensation, the right to truth, memorialization, and guarantees against the recurrence of crimes. We will discuss the war crimes committed in the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia from both historical and legal perspectives, as well as the legacy of the Hague Tribunal. Current challenges of transitional justice in Montenegro and the world will also be addressed.

To improve students’ research skills, a workshop on how to use available sources to study war crimes is planned.

The training will be dynamic and interactive. The lecturers will be Tea Gorjanc Prelević, Executive Director of HRA, Prof. Miloš Vukanović, historian, and Bojana Malović, Legal Advisor of HRA.

The number of participants is limited, so we kindly ask you to respond to the invitation as soon as possible at the email address: hra@t-com.me. Participants will receive a certificate for attending the seminar.

We are organizing the seminar as part of the project “Improving Transitional Justice in Montenegro,” financially supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
